At PCAC, anesthetic monitoring includes ecg, pulse oximetry (oxygen saturation in the blood), heart rate (pulse), temperature, capnography (CO2 output), and blood pressure. Blood pressure is especially important because it is important that we keep the kidneys perfused throughout the anesthetic experience to maintain their health. Using all of these mechanical monitoring devices is helpful, but they come a very distant second to the certified technician who is dedicated to the safety of your pet while it is anesthetized.
