While many pets enjoy the excitement of the
trip to our hospital, we understand that sometimes bringing your dog or cat
to the vet can be stressful for you and your pet. Please let us know
if you would like assistance from your car into the hospital, we are happy
to help.
If your pet
gets nervous at the vet, bring along a favorite toy - this can be
used to help lure them onto the scale, into the exam room, and may help
distract them from the foreign sights and scents. We keep plenty of
treats on hand, but you are welcome to bring along your pet's favorite
treats as well. Lastly, consider stopping by just for fun visits,
where your pet just gets love and treats and learns our clinic is a great
place to go.
Breed Specific Care
We understand that each breed is unique and special, and even has their own
health issues. That is why we discuss breed specific issues, and do
diagnostic testing to rule out issues that are common to certain breeds.
For example, Wheatons may need early screening for kidney disease, poodles
testing to rule out glaucoma, and labs diagnostics to watch for displaysia.
Many of these conditions are easier to treat when caught early - adding to
the health and life of your pet.
Wellness Exams At PCAC, our complete wellness exams are one
of the things that set us apart from other hospitals. Clients have
said things such as "My pet has never been thoroughly examined like that
before!" In addition to the doctor discussing the exam with you,
every pet receives a complete report with an
explanation of each system examined and the findings. The
areas examined include your pet's ears, eyes, gastro-intestinal system and
abdomen, heart and cardiovascular system, lungs/trachea and respiratory
system, lymph nodes and thyroid gland, musculoskeletal system, nervous
system, nose and throat, skin and hair coat, urogenital system, and
mouth/teeth/and gums.
Along with your insights and appropriate diagnostics, routine
exams can help us diagnose problems in their early stages when they are more
likely to respond to treatment.
Advanced Diagnostics Routine (preventative) blood work provides a
more complete picture of our pets' health since symptoms are often not
apparent until advanced stages of many diseases. We offer complete
blood work including CBC's, chemistries, heartworm tests, and drug
maintenance screening. Early Renal Disease screening (ERD) and Blood
Pressure screening are useful tools as well as measuring eye pressures to
screen for glaucoma. Our digital x-ray, in-house digital ultrasound,
and video otoscopy are available to aid in quickly diagnosing and treating
your pet should the need arise. Please ask us for more information about
preventative diagnostics for your pet.
Weight Management A recent study showed
that pets who are at their healthy weight live an average of two years
longer! Because so many pets are overweight, many people believe their
pet is at a healthy weight when it is actually much heavier than desirable.
Diabetes, heart disease, and joint issues are just a few of the problems
that are more prevalent in overweight pets.
We want to partner with you in your efforts to tackle your pet's weight
issues. Our clients are having great success with our weight loss
challenge. Some are using Slentrol, a weight loss medication, others
are using diet and exercise alone, but all are checking in frequently and
getting help and encouragement. Let us partner with you in your
efforts to get your pet healthier! Call or

Dentistry Dental health is an important part of your pet's overall health.
The bacteria that build up during dental disease can enter the blood stream
and lead to heart disease, kidney disease, and other problems. By
removing painful teeth, dentistry can often improve your pet's quality of
life.
Dentistry at PCAC falls into two categories:
Moderate Sedation Dentals for
prophylactic cleanings, and Anesthetic Dental
Procedures for minor to advanced periodontal disease. Both types
of dental procedures include a complete oral exam with charting, ultrasonic
cleaning both above and below the gumline (where most the disease is),
polishing of the teeth, and fluoride treatment.
